It seems to me that as Democrats we keep using Republican language to frame our ideas.
When we use Republican language to combat Republican ideas we start off at a disadvantage with the voters.
I hope I can start a discussion on a more appropriate word to use than tax cuts.
When liberal economists like Paul Krugman say things like "Republicans will hold any attempt to help the economy now hostage to yet another try at making the Bush tax cuts permanent" voters can't see the problem with the tax cuts.
As a wage earner, I hate taxes so the thought of tax cuts seem like a great idea.
If we were to frame it like "Republicans will hold any attempt to help the economy now hostage to yet another try at making the Bush tax shifts permanent".
I think the word tax shift gets what the Republicans are doing across to the voters in a clearer way.
Tax shifts gives the idea that Republicans are trying to shift the burden of taxes from those who are capital gains earners to wage earners or to put it more clearly from the rich to the middle class and poor.
I hope this gets the ball rolling for a tax language for Democrats from Democrats.
