Sorry to post another censure diary, but has anyone noticed that Karl Rove has once again punk'd the Democratic "leadership." I don't remember the setting, but when the NYT first broke the story of the massive wire-tapping program that bypassed the FISA court, Rove said to some conservative group, yeah, let the Democrats use this an issue. We'll kill 'em by saying: "Democrats oppose spying on terrorists."
And the Democratic leadership was IMMEDIATELY scared off. That's what we're seeing with the lack of support for the Feingold censure motion. The Democrats believed Rove, or rather they feared him. Here's a few short lines they could use instead.
The massive NSA surveillance program is useless for combating terrorism. Ask the FBI.
George Bush broke the law, when there was a legal channel for getting wiretaps.
George Bush believes the President is above the law.
You really want Big Brother spying on you?
But Rove punked the Dems again. And as we see on this site, the public already supports censure by a narrow margin. With some education by real Democratic leaders, the margin would widen. Or course the wingnuts will believe "Democrats oppose spying on terrorists." WE WILL NEVER GET THE WINGNUT VOTE, HILLARY! The hard-core wingnuts are a little under 1/3 of voters - a scarey proportion, true, but no enough to win an election on their own.
Instead we get craven surrender.
