Facebook has it's own hemisphere in the blogging world. It's easy communicative blogging for, usually and historically, a college aged crowd of people. It's popularity is immense and it is becoming an increasingly more reliable source of communication. So, I know it isn't drastically impacting the lives of Americans, and it also isn't a definite source of true information. That aside I saw something that worried me, tonight in an event I had been invited to.
Facebook Presidential Election 2008
Ok, so Youtube has a presidential debate, and dailykos is headlined monthly on CNN and MSNBC, so I don't think it's too much of a stretch to notice this about the official facebook event. This event is well created and lists all caucus and primary dates. It also lists all links to register, and advice for supporting a candidate. Not to mention the walls and discussion boards that anyone can debate on. (this is one of many places facebookers can and do debate)
Number of people attending this event: 516,764
Number of people maybe attending this event: 86,176
Number of people not attending this event: 365,115
240,296 is the number of people who haven't decided or haven't received an invitation, but that could be people ignoring the invitation, old undeleted profiles, or less frequent facebook visitors.
This number troubles me, cause the "new voters" are many of this generation, and it may mean that the democratic side (mostly Obama) won't get as much of his young vote as he/they think.
I, of course, am among the 516,764 people on facebook who are attending the Presidential Election 2008.
