This is the letter I just wrote to the Chris Matthews show. I recommend you also submit your thoughts to the show here.
I believe you made a terrible mistake in pre-recording the Jan 27th show in advance of the SC primary results.
The results of the pre-recorded Chris Matthews show were obvious: Chris and the panel were talking to me today about the political memes of last week (Wed-Friday). With the SC primaries occurring on Saturday, it would have been best to scrap this week's episode if Chris and the panel were unavailable to shoot post-SC-results. Or, they should have had the smarts to avoid the Democratic side of the conversation completely.
Instead, viewers witnessed failed attempts by Chris and his panel to try to navigate around the fact that they were discussing tragically outdated political memes of the Clintons / Obama fight. This not only fell flat, but fell beyond useless.
After the shocking results of SC on Saturday, this Sunday's show actually did a disservice to national political discourse. You would have served your viewers -- and your nation -- better if you would have simply taken a break when Chris and a panel were not around to react in a timely fashion.
In the future, please consider this as you work your programming schedule -- today's episode was terribly disappointing on many levels, and ultimately hurts the Chris Matthews and NBC brand.
Thanks,
Jon
