Why does no one talk about the fact that Bill Clinton won the white house with a smaller percentage of the popular vote than George Bush II got?
In 1992:
Bill Clinton: 43%
George Bush: 37%
Ross Perot: 19%
In 1996 (Running as an incumbent)
Bill Clinton: 49%
Bob Dole: 41%
Ross Perot 8%
Bill Clinton was a plurality president -- and if you look at the polls, even in the Democratic primary this season, Hillary has never topped 50%, and seems to hover around 40%. I don't think Hillary will ever top 50% in any state except maybe NY.
Are they still running a 40% strategy when they need 50% to win?
