I'm sure many are still in shock from the reports that John Edwards is dropping his bid for president.
While there will undoubtedly be threads where a combination of shock and sadness will be expressed, I wanted to use this space as a spot to personally thank John Edwards for elevating the debate and bringing issues to light that, without his candidacy, simply would never have seen the light of day.
It is fitting that John is ending his campaign right where he started it, shining a spotlight once again on that which has been neglected, the shame of our own country and the injustice that still pervades New Orleans even to this day.
In this, the most prosperous country on the planet, the plight of those who are poor often become invisible. John Edwards made those people visible once more. John Edwards gave those people a voice. He did so when no one else would. His campaign was a siren song raging against so much injustice in this great country, forcing others to see those who might otherwise be invisible in this debate.
Thank you John Edwards. Thank you for always being gracious, yet always firm and insistent that we see the injustice all around us. That we stand up for those who may not have enough money to have a voice, but certainly deserve to be heard.
Thank you John, you and Elizabeth, for being a voice for the voiceless. When no one else would.
You presence in this debate will surely be missed.
