Is anyone else bothered by the fact that a quarter of a million people (far less than 1% of all Democrats) has effectively forced two people to drop out of the Primary?
Unlike the Republicans, the Democratic caucus process demands that a candidate can only receive votes at a caucus site IF said candidates receive 15% of the votes of those in attendance. That means that anyone at a caucus vote who voted for a non-viable candidate (ie.. someone who received less than 15% of votes present) has to vote for someone else.
The big problem with this is that some of our candidates who received initial support had a final vote count of 1% or less. Because of this, two candidates dropped out: Dodd and Biden.
Now, ABC is announcing that they will be cutting Kucinich, Hunter and Gavel from the debate on Saturday because they did not meet support requirements.
So our field of 10 candidates has been pruned in one vote to four: Clinton, Edwards, Obama, and Richardson.
Four.
250,000 people have reduced the nations choice for Democratic nominee to four.
There are almost 150,000,000 people have yet to vote for their choice of Democratic nominee and already their vote has been restricted.
How is this democratic?
