Here's the text of an email I just sent Krauthammer and the WaPost Ombudsman, for what it's worth
My father is a big fan of your column, Mr. Krauthammer. I must admit I don't share his enthusiasm; my politics are rather different from yours. But I know that, from your Dean piece today, you must be getting a lot of angry mail. As a Dean supporter, I'm sorry if there were people who went over the top in their responses.
Your column ended by suggesting readers send donations to the RNC. This shocked me. I understand papers depend on advertising, but I was unaware that placing the ads inside of articles was acceptable practice for one of the top newspapers in America. Mr. Krauthammer, wouldn't you be upset if Molly Ivins ended her recent column in support of Dean with an exhortation for all her readers to log onto deanforamerica.com and donate $2,000 to him?
You claim Dean is paranoid, and delusional. And you back it up with your psych credentials. Those are fighting words--in my opinion, politics doesn't get much dirtier than when you impugn the opposition's sanity. If I was bringing out such serious charges, I'd be sure that my quotes were exact, and did not mislead. Therefore, you'll understand my surprise to find that Dean never said he would send officials to the FCC who would break up Fox. The people he said he'd appoint to the FCC were ones who'd reinstate saturation limits in local media markets.
If I was your editor, you'd be looking for a new job.
