Well, it took 13 years, but they have just announced that O.J. Simpson has been found guilty of the charges against him in the Las Vegas incident regarding the sports memorabilia. I'm sure many people are thinking that it is about time that this man gets justice for his crimes. I feel that way too. But my next almost immediately visceral reaction is that this will fill up the news cycle tomorrow as people are grateful that an apparent murderer of two people finally gets some kind of justice, but what about the man who has been responsible for the deaths of over 4000 Americans and over 100,000 Iraqis?
Why can't this nation care more about the high crimes and misdemeanors of Bush and Cheney? Why do we still care more about Nicole Simpson and Ron Brown than we do about all those poor souls who have died for Bush's lies? Or the many people who are desperate and homeless, or facing foreclosure, or facing losing their jobs, because of his completely idiotic mismanagement and even more evil dishonesty and deceit?
Today, I read with great sorrow about a 90 year old woman who shot herself rather than be evicted from the home she'd lived in for her whole life. Then I read about a family living with a toddler in a tent in Kansas. Last week, it was about a man who died in an emergency room awaiting treatment because our hospital system has broken down so badly. All of this can be laid directly within the context of the articles of impeachment that Dennis Kucinich has so eloquently and bravely put forth.
I also read that now we are worried that Bush will attempt to pardon all his co-conspirators before he leaves office. I hope that on November 5th the Democratic leadership finally takes impeachment off the table and gets him out of office before he is allowed to do this. I want history to show what he did. And I want him to be fully prosecuted to the extent of the law in criminal court.
I'm glad OJ got what was coming to him, but I'd be a lot happier if it was Dick Cheney and George Bush and Alberto Gonzalez and the rest of the slimy crew that was being led away in handcuffs.
