Ok, I'm going to say it. As you can see from diaries I wrote around the 2004 election, I am very cynical and fearful of the ability of anyone to steal the vote. Black Box voting and others have documented the ease with which the vote may be hacked.
As a matter of fact, I believe in my heart of hearts that the 2002 Georgia Senate election defeat of Max Cleland and the 2004 vote for president were both hacked and stolen.
Turn the page, and let's talk about it!
In 2006, the groundswell across the country was too great for the "hackers/evil doers" to do anything about retaining a Republican controlled Congress. It's more difficult to impact 435 congressional races. Sure, they can hack a few, but they never anticipated the tidal wave.
They can, however, impact a few states in an extremely tight election as in 2004. What we need is an overwhelming electoral victory to preclude the possibility of nefarious activity in Ohio, Florida and North Carolina turning the overall election Red.
I do still fear that yet another election could be stolen from us. We will hear the analysis of how the polls were wrong, or how the fact that Barack is black had a 6% swing on results. Hell, we are already being conditioned for it.
Last night, during post debate analysis on CNN, James Carville indicated that if the polls continue to run as they are, and Obama loses nonetheless, we are in for trouble.
What I think he was referring to was the thought that there would be an uprising of protest. I hope he's right, because how could we possibly stand idly by and watch a third presidential election be stolen from us?
We need to keep up the pressure.
We need to continue donating.
We need to continue phone banking.
We need to talk to anyone who will listen to us.
We need to work as though we are 10 pts down in the polls.
We need to stand firm - We will not allow another election to be stolen!
We need to take our country back!
