After the past few months of watching the right wing criminals create a farce that the reconciliation of Iraq has been working and that we are winning the war on terror I have been in awe at just how hard it is to find factual information regarding the true nature of the surge and where the alliance will go from here. Thanks to McCain, Bush and Petreus Iraq is worst than it has ever been when trying to accept a strategic withdraw. The so called, "Surge" tactic has created a time bomb waiting to be triggered. It was clearly foreseeable that injecting numerous troops into a battle zone would quell violence and create a facade that things were so much better. I, for one, can honestly say how grateful I am that violence is down and even more so that the troop death numbers are down but for how long and the 4000 or so that have died already, in my mind, are due to criminal acts from the commander and chief that sent them into a war of aggression and occupancy without cause.
I refer back to September of 07 and listening to General Petraeus' statements regarding Al Anbar and the successes that have occurred creating situation that were "fragile" and "reversible". It took quite a while for me to understand that part of the surge was not only sending in more troops but also financially extorting Shia and Sunni tribes in order to drive down violence as well. Walling off complete sectors of Baghdad creating ethnic cleansing and a city divided.
Under completely different circumstances, I often think about discussions that I have with my brothers wife from Ireland and our chats about the sectarianism that still exists there between Catholics and Protestants, much more tame these days from it's past history. Although a civil war is not currently a part of Ireland, history has shown just how bad these types of situations can be. Our own countries inevitable civil war took away more lives than any in our countries history, brother against brother. The price was high but the product was without a doubt absolutely necessary for equality.
I have been quite interested in Iraq and the situation that our young men and women of the military have been cast into, I guess mostly because the lack of reason, other than oil, has baffled me on why and how our country could have allowed this to happen. Well, obviously many good people were lied to by George Bush and Co. but even with the overwhelming trumped up evidence at the time to go to war with Iraq (WMD's, Saddam, Nuclear) I find myself drawn even more to Obama and his Judgment at the time to step back and realize what this occupation would really do to this country, our economy, and our soldiers precious lives that have been lost. Not to mention the overwhelming numbers of Iraqi citizens that have been murdered because of this tragic war.
Through my research since the start of the Surge the MSM have painted a picture of absolute victory to the eyes of the American people stating how violence is down and people can now go back out on the streets. Im not sure about you but whenever I see people out on the streets, they dont look all that happy to me. Yes, there are some areas where shops are opening up and locals can now head off to work which is a good start for those people that have been victimized by an occupation. What we dont see or hear about are the aspects of war behind the scenes. It gets so daunting listening to John McCain and his rejects talk about the surge, its victory and bringing our troops home with honor. I honor my troops already, in my eyes, they have won already, they have gone to a country with the possibility of losing their lives and many did. They have honored themselves and America through bravery.
The troops need to come home, in a responsible manner but come home and very soon. Iraq's situation is not stable and the problems that they are having now are an Iraq issue, not an American one. How long will it be before the Sunni and Shia finally break away from this mercenary situation they are in and what about the Kurds. The different factions of this country are extremely unstable and I am truly fearing that something could happen very soon that would leave the troops in a position of not being able to leave at all. The way I see it, sooner or later situations of stress usually break away and I am quite impressed that these situations have lasted as long as they have. We need to take the signs and get the hell out. The Iraqis do not want us there!! I agree with Barack and feel that the Iraqi government needs to take control of their government and then take control of the country before the U.S. ends up stuck in Iraq for 100 years like McCain is proposing.
It is time for the soldiers to come home.
