The unreal has just happened. If it wasn't bad enough that the McCain camp wasn't addressing AT the rallies, or afterwards, the rabid hatred and racism spewing from their supporters. Shouts of "Kill Him", "Traitor", "Terrorist", "Off with his head"... All phrases that have no place in a civilized society, and ring more of the day of lynchings and witch hunts.
Well, now they McCain Campaign has just endorsed it...
Ben Smith over at Politico is now reporting that McCain Camp spokesman, Brian Rogers, is pushing back on the story line. Here's a bit of detail:
Barack Obama’s attacks on Americans who support John McCain reveal far more about him than they do about John McCain. It is clear that Barack Obama just doesn’t understand regular people and the issues they care about. He dismisses hardworking middle class Americans as clinging to guns and religion, while at the same time attacking average Americans at McCain rallies who are angry at Washington, Wall Street and the status quo.
Rogers goes on to accuse Obama of trying to silence them.
I'm really at a loss for words here. Is this a campaign from the Civil Rights era? Or one of 2008? It's like a nightmare that I wish I could wake up from.
Update #1: Thank you all, this is my first time on the Rec List... I added the link to Ben's article above, and be sure to digg it.
Update #2: Mark Murray at NBC is also running with the story, a bit more to read there. (special thanks to Clytemnestra)
