We are Obama supporters, Clinton Supporters, Biden supporters, etc. We are a progressive yet cautious assimilation of great minds and great hearts. We are striving to not be a people of hatred or disdain. We are a people of acceptance and unrelenting quest for all that is possible, all that is fair and all that is just. These last few weeks before the final votes are tallied, let's remember exactly who we represent, who we hope to represent us and who we are. Let's remember why we support all those who have risen to leadership within the party. Let us respect them as we would demand they respect us. It is getting downright dirty out there, downright messy and sometimes hard to project our feelings regarding the tactics of McCain/Palin....but we are better than that. We are the party of Obama and Obama is responsible to us.
I went onto the Obama website today. I needed a little pick me up because this last week, as I am sure the next 3 weeks have run a number on my nerves. I have had to fight not to cast out cruel words, angry words, words that are not representative of what our country needs to move forward. We need to look towards to the future, to dream and remember what it is like to have hope.
What is our party about? What do we represent. Remember this, as we try to wade through the next few weeks of vitriol and campaigning. Remember that we are the UNITED States of America. We cannot let the McCain Campaign, in their last throes of negative campaigning take our eyes off of our common purpose. Our UNITED purpose as a people that share this great country. As Obama states:
" "I want to acknowledge that Senator McCain tried to tone down the rhetoric yesterday at his town hall yesterday," Obama said, "and I appreciate his reminder that we can disagree while still being respectful of each other. I’ve said it before, and I'll say it again – Senator McCain has served this country with honor, he deserves our thanks for that.
Let us be the people that will be held accountable and will hold Obama accountable to being a spokesperson for our greatest hopes. Let us endeavor to move forward.
We can trust in Obama to handle the mess coming in the next few weeks. After all, his campaign seems to have predicted the very tactics that we are seeing right now:
This is who we are, as a people, as a nation, as our own future:
Remember, we are fighting not only for Obama, but for all Americans, even those who may disagree with us. We are fighting for the common good.In the end, we will need McCain, we will need republicans to assist in turning this country back on it's feet. We will need all Americans.
