Some parking lot owner in Gibsonville, NC put a sign saying...
Obama supporter?
Obama bumper sticker?
NO PARKING!
It was reported on the local news. Quotes, video, and a little story of how this unlovely chap got put in his place by the town mayor - after the jump.
First, kudos to digitriad.com for carrying the story.
Parking lot owner Tim Henderson is quite clear about the message he's sending from two identical signs he posted, warning "no parking" for Obama supporters or people with Obama bumper stickers.
"I don't know how many ways you can interpret it. If you're an Obama supporter, you've got an Obama sticker on your car, you're not welcome to park here," says Henderson.
Note that this isn't some out-of-the-way lot in the middle of nowhere, there is a long-standing agreement for this lot to be used by state employees who work in the building across the street... and lots of them have Obama stickers!
"This is ridiculous," says Dave Dicke. Dicke works at a state agency across the street. The agency's employees have had an agreement to park on Henderson's lot for years. Some of them have Obama stickers on their private vehicles.
Interestingly, the mayor of Gibsonville shows up. After a stern talking-to, the lot owner takes the signs down.
"If he said Obama folks could park here but McCain couldn't I wouldn't like that either," says Mayor Lenny Williams.
Watch the video (props to Raw Story).
Also note that the hapless lot owner Tim Henderson posted a long and rather incoherent tirade on the digitriad.com blog explaining his decision... Among the highlights of this rant are...
The question as to whether or not I have a right to post the signs misses the point. So far, I do. The question is, will I have it in the future?
It is a socialist state, brought about by Mr. Obama’s brand of hope and change, in which I won’t, I fear. I am baffled a bit by how race got into this issue. I am not opposed to Mr. Obama because of his skin color. I am opposed to anyone, regardless of skin color, who propounds Mr. Obama’s ideology. It’s an ideology of socialism, if you want to remain politically correct, or more precisely stated, communism, in my opinion. Lenin and Marx were communist, and Saul Alinsky is, in my opinion.
Saul Alinsky? Oh my. This guy died, like, in 1970, or something... he's the one who coined "Think globally act locally," I think...
In my humble opinion, liberals have been wrong about most things. To paraphrase Ayn Rand, they’ve not been right about the military, business, the economy or foreign policy.
Ayn Rand on a freaking bicycle pulling wheelies in the parking lot, you've gotta be kidding me.
