THis morning's "special report" headline in the St Paul Pioneer press:
"Barack Obama is black. Will that matter?"
The paper has had a history all year of selecting extremely favorable Republican-coverage stories off the wire, and noticeably slanted Democratic-coverage off teh wire. Within the last month or two, they've published stories bringing out all the flag pin controversy, the Reverend Wright controversy and a whole host of other debunked crap, months after it had been put to rest in the rest of the media.
This, though, is just a bunch of blatant partisan handwringing meant to rally the troops.
Also on the front page:
"the Bradley effect:...should Obama's team be worried?"
"Will Obama's quiet targeting of black voters be enough to counteract any such bias?"
"...only a small fraction of the Dmeoncratic working-class voters she talks to exhibit any racial prejudice. But those voters could be key in a close Minnesota contest..." (Close? Still? Poblano has Minnesota as a virtual lock?)
another smaller headline: " ...campaign targets black voters" (And what Democratic candidate in the last 40 years hasn't done that?!!!)
I guess given the response of the city to the RNC protests, I shouldn't be surprised by this, but this is the final straw - we will be a Strib customer shortly.
