With all this talk about the Middle Class and the Top 1-2%, you'd think that everyone in this country held jobs and were somehow able to make it (even if they were barely scratching the surface). But what about those folks who are living in poverty (I mean literally)--living off of 15K or less a year, trying to take care of themselves and 2 or 3 little ones as well. What about them? It seems there's only one candidate who hasn't forgotten about them...Barack Obama!
I read this article today on Huffington Post http://www.huffingtonpost.com/... about all of the initiatives that Barack Obama has outlined in his plan to fight poverty. http://origin.barackobama.com/...
I know many of you have already read his plan on poverty as I have, but today, when I read that article (as I was listening to John McCain in the background on TV babble on about all of his "non-plans"), I smiled to myself and thought, "I cannot wait for Barack to become President." Here is a man who gets it...I mean really gets it! From raising the minimum wage, to promoting fatherhood, community developments, supporting young single parents...this is a man who truly gets what's going on around this country.
(I know all of us Kossacks get it...So forgive me for the babbling.)
When I look back at the neighborhood I grew up in, it's sad. Hope is non-existent as it had been for several years. Steel mills have been shutdown, unemployment is out the roof, crime is up, young kids having babies, drug use/drug dealing is like a neighborhood past time. And as I watch and listen to Senator Obama and read his plans to help this country, I think, "Finally, someone who gets what's going on, who cares what's going on and finally, someone who will do something about what's been going on.
I'm happy to be supporting his candidacy, and cannot wait until he's sworn in as our next POTUS!
