I am a big fan of Elizabeth Edwards. She is role model for me. She is tough, smart, beautiful, and kind. I witnessed her remarkable strength and compassion when I attended a John Edwards town hall meeting at the Franco-American Centre in Manchester, NH earlier this year. Elizabeth talked passionately about her family, the Sarkisyan family, breast cancer, the Patient's Bill of Rights, (the bill President Bush opposed) and about the need for universal healthcare.
More below the fold.
So when I saw a blurb on a local television station about her cancelled appearance in Detroit on Wednesday, I got a little concerned. According to the local NBC station here in Detroit, she cancelled her appearance to care for her "gravely ill" 85 year-old mom. In fact, Elizabeth Edwards has cancelled all of her October engagements.
Here is a video of the event I attended earlier this year and it reminded me of why we need to fight for universal healthcare and why I really admire Mrs. Edwards:
The best moment of the town hall was around the 40 minute mark, Elizabeth taps John’s shoulder while he answers a question from a voter. She tries to interject but John Edwards goes on and says, "I’ll let you talk, let me finish." John stops in the middle of his answer, and begins to tell us about a story about a reporter who asks him after one of his events, "So, does she (Elizabeth Edwards) talk to you about what she’s going to say before she says it?" John Edwards answer to the reporter was, "Have you met Elizabeth?"
I have one word for that moment, awesome!!!
Elizabeth is a remarkable woman, a phenomenal woman, she is a self-described "involuntary soldier in the war against breast cancer," and a woman who has survived so much. I just want to say God bless you Elizabeth Edwards, your mom, and your family. You are in my thoughts.
We should her send our well wishes and let her know that we have her back. Here's her email address, elizabeth@johnedwards.com.
