Spike Lee gave us a beautifully haunting documentary, "Four Little Girls" which chronicled the story of the 4 little girls who died in the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham ( aka "Bombingham" in he 60's), Alabama. In it we meet their families and friends, and we relive those times which some of us, particularly those of us who directly benefited from those acts of civil disobedience (code:black folks), have forgotten. The history cannot be ignored any longer, for we are living its [sometimes wicked] legacy each and every day. To pretend that the continuum has somehow been interrupted, and we can keep the discussion on the forward, is to purposely gouge out our eyes and self-lobotomize and allow history to repeat itself. So, a reminder, refresher, or introduction from good ol' Wikipedia:

We cannot allow past to be prologue. There are two little girls who, with each passing day, are being placed in danger by those who call themselves "American." Their father is being placed in harm's way with the overt approval of those who would run this country if they could. Two precious little girls who are not the descendants of slaves, who have no familial relation to the heinous acts of Alabama, Missisippi, and Louisiana. Two smart little girls who have eyes that see and read, and must fully understand what is happening to their father's image. Two little girls who deserve to have the love of a father and to dance with their small feet on his big feet, and to be walked down the aisle on their wedding days.
John McCain has tried to dismiss former freedom-rider, former SNCC chairman and congressman (D-GA) John Lewis's http://en.wikipedia.org/... words about what kind of behavior will come about as a result of he and Palin's painting of Barack Obama as a "terrorist" and someone who is "not like" them and other "Americans" as wrong, and has asked Barack Obama to reupudiate them. He does not remember being beaten about the head with billy clubs and eaten by attack dogs while riding to "get out the vote," or should I say "get the vote," all those years ago. Yesterday, really.
So I will continue to keep Barack in my prayers, and trust that the Power that created both him and me will keep us safe at all times, and under all circumstances. And I will pray that Sasha's and Malia's daddy be there until we bury the Elder Statesman Barack Obama at the ripe old age of say, 115, 120?
