I just received an e-mail from WaPo reporter James Grimaldi pointing to his new exclusive on Verizon and At&T providing cell phone towers for the McCain Ranch. I'll try to link to the article.
Verizon and At&T have been wheeling in free cell-phone coverage for John McCain and Cindy McCain at their ranch in Arizona. Money quote:
"Ethics lawyers said Cindy McCain's dealings with the wireless companies stand out because Sen. John McCain is a senior member of the Senate Commerce Committee, which oversees the Federal Communications Commission and the telecommunications industry. He has been a leading advocate for industry-backed legislation, fighting regulations and taxes on telecommunications services."
It appears that the McCains have a special relationship with Verizon and At&T where they are getting special treatment due to his position on the Commerce committee. Do we have yet another example here of McCain's tendency to use his position of power to gain special favors? Maybe he did know of some of Palin's ethics abuses and considered them tame. Here we have a just-breaking story of yet another ethics abuse documented in the Washington Post.
Update: I did something wrong and the link didn't show up, so here it is:http://voices.washingtonpost.com/washingtonpostinvestigations/2008/10/exclusive_verizon_gave_cell
_to.html. Sorry for the awkwardness. I just hear it's on the front page. Good.
