A 527 named "Help Bring Ohio Back" (affectionately known as "Bob" to Democratic Ohioans) was formed in 2004 to advocate progressive policies that would help our distressed state. Their website is here, but the reason I posted this diary was not so much to tout the organization - although I love them and donate to them - but to celebrate the witty, incisive ads they've created to tweak some of Johnnie Mac's Big Ideas.
Warning: embedded Yoo Toobz below the fold.....
Their ads, all released in October, were "produced by Jonathan Crannin, the New York ad exec behind MasterCard's 'Priceless' commercials and eBay's 'Talking Baby' spots (Cleveland Plain Dealer, October 14).
What I most enjoy is that each of the four spots includes a shot of a moose head on the wall of the restaurant the ads were shot in. I should also mention that each features the recurring characters "Dave and Joe", flannel-shirted schlubby working stiffs like so many of us, whose characters ring true.
"Nuts" snarks McCain's thoughts on privatizing Social Security:
Then, there's "Beer Gut", which compares the strong fundamentals of our economy to other examples of magical thinking:
"Pinch" declares "that's what I need, I need somebody deducting more of my paycheck" for health care benefits:
And finally, "Waitress" rags on Johnnie Mac's campaign of FUD:
These thirty second spots are brilliant in their ability to speak directly to Joe Six-Pack, Jill Nine-to-Five, and even Joe the Plumber. If it's possible to be negative without being negative, these ads achieve it. Bravo, Bob!
