Mario Diaz-Balart is jumping to a new media format with a new language to spread his smears of Joe Garcia. The fun part is that he breaks Federal Election Law while doing so!
After kicking off his TV campaign with an ad that has been debunked by just about every local media outlet, Mario Diaz-Balart went ahead and doubled his buy.
Now that the TV ad has been widely criticized for its aversion to facts, Diaz-Balart seems to think he can simply get away by switching languages. He's now up on Spanish radio with extended, paid spots featuring a fake interview between him and registered lobbyist/campaign manager/personal secretary, Carlos Curbelo. The ad is dedicated to falsely attacking Joe's position on the Columbia Free Trade Agreement.
Oh, and did we mention it's a blatant violation of Federal Election Law?
A Spanish language radio ad by Mario Diaz-Balart has drawn fire from the South Florida AFL-CIO, which today lodged a complaint with the Federal Election Commission, charging that Diaz-Balart fails to include the requisite verbal approval. (As in, I'm Mario Diaz-Balart and I approve of this message.)
The union says the omission is in direct violation of the "Stand by Your Ad" provision. You can listen to it here.
Since there's little chance of something actually being done about Mario Diaz-Balart disregarding the law about as freely as he avoids facts and his record of being one of George Bush's biggest fans, we need every bit of help we can get to continue to tell the truth about Joe Garcia's lifetime career of fighting for the middle class throughout the entire state of Florida.
Will you help us keep up the fight?
