Day one of early voting in North Carolina set a record with more than 100,000 votes cast, breaking the one day record for early voting by 40%. The day 1 voters were:
64% Democrats
21% Republicans
15% Unaffiliated
A 3:1 advantage for Dems. In NC. Wow!

Now compare that to the breakdown of voter registration in North Carolina by party:
45.6% Democrats
32.2% Republicans
22.2% Unaffiliated
Democrats are far more motivated to get out and vote here. I suppose this level of excitement among Democrats should be expected, considering the lopsided advantage we have had in voter registration in 2008. So far this year, there has been a net increase of 551,996 new voters in NC. This includes:
293,073 Democrats
194,841 Unaffiliated
61,361 Republcans
2,721 Libertarians
- Only 11% of new registrations have been for the GOP in 2008 in NC.
- Democrats have increased their margin over Republicans by 231,712 in 2008. That is more than the margin in any of our US Senate races going back to at least 1992.
North Carolina Democrats are motivated. NC will be blue in 2008.
