Obama is afraid of complacency and we all should be. However, I would like to see a massive push at the finish line for another reason, or two, or three...
This election has really affected me, as it has my family and I am sure most/all of you. Nothing has prepared me for this election. I am sickened by the negative campaign that McCain has run. The lows to which he and his vile excuse for a running mate have traversed, and the sheer volume of hate and racism that has been used as a political tool by the Right. I am sick of it. When have we ever had a potential First Lady on the Stump lying on behalf of her spouse, calling the other candidate anti-American and essentially guilty of treason? When has a campaign incited violence? I am sick of it, but....
I AM ALSO SICK OF THE FOLLOWING:
Fox News and its smug, holier than thou dolled-up sex-for-sale lying "reporters".
The Right-Wing-Nut Radio with its disdain for things like the truth, integirty, morality and compassion.
The MSM for it utter failure to be the watch dog of Government. Its transparent fear of the Right and Fox News. Its greed in the face of choosing between covering the truth and retaining advertisers. And most of all its unwillingness to stem the tide of lies and hate coming from a campaign bent on inciting violence.
Rabid hate-filled voters who are unable to identify a single policy of their candidate but can recite the talking-points-of-attack that they proudly use in place of their own opinion.
The Blogs of the far Right with their closet Nazis and their hide-behind-the-computer brand of hate politics. These pseudo-celebrities that don't realize that just because the Internet gives them a voice doesn't mean anyone really wants to hear it.
The W/McCain/Palin bumper stickers that are put on cars, not to exercise a right to choose a candidate but more to intimidate or bully - and to appeal to sense of belonging to a club that is "exclusive" that serves to remind some that they are just not "part" of that club.
The power-hungry Republican incumbents that think they can use intimidation instead of collaboration, who think they can spew talking-points instead of answering direct questions, who divert attention in lieu of accountability, and who think we are too stupid or complacent to replace them. (I just saw an interview with Michelle Bachmann on Hardball - perfect example)
I want to see this election be a monumental landslide to show the Right that we have had enough of these things, to show the world that we are not ALL like those few, to show the country that things are going to be different, to PROVE that MOST of us are NOT RACIST.
So please, lets give even more, lets volunteer and work even harder, lets remind even more people to vote and let none of us think our work is done.
