I need to make this diary brief as I need to leave soon, but I just saw part of Chris Matthews discussion with congresswoman Michelle Bachman and his discussion of the robocalls... Go here: http://www.dailykos.com/...
My blood is boiling right now. As much as I'd like to let this ignore this insanity I think it is very dangerous. People like Bachman are the domestic terrorists of tomorrow... even today. More people like her and the folks at the Palin rallies will emerge if these lies are not challenged.
Bill Ayers WAS a domestic terrorist, but he DID NOT kill people. Nor did he try to. These robocalls are specifically insinuating that he's a killer. His group planted bombs designed to destroy property and call attention to their anti-war cause. The ONLY people killed by the organization were their own members when they made the bombs.
Bill Ayers DID NOT say on 9/11, as McCain repeatedly says, that he wished he'd done more. That makes it sound like he said it while watching the smoldering ruins of the World Trade Center. The fact is those comments were published on 9/11 in the New York Times, in print when the first tower struck. I very much doubt he would have made those comments in the post 9/11 world.
Bombing of any kind is despicable but the McCain campaign is engaging in a diabolical disinformation campaign designed to slap Barack Obama's image on the events of 9/11. As disgusted as Chris Matthews was by this reprehensible congresswoman, I think more needs to be done to contextualize this. The GOP is trying to breed a new type of dangerous, mouth frothing extremism, and they are going to make themselves a problem if we don't do something about it now!
