Republican presidential candidate John McCain on Saturday accused Democratic rival Barack Obama of favoring a socialistic economic approach by supporting tax cuts and tax credits McCain says would merely shuffle wealth rather than creating it.

So providing tax cuts to moderate-income Americans while raising taxes on upper-income Americans is European-style socialism, but taking the hard-earned tax dollars of people who didn't buy homes they couldn't afford at ridiculously inflated prices and giving the money to people who did do that is . . . rugged free market individualism?
I realize nobody should expect consistency (or coherence) in a modern presidential campaign, least of all John McCain's, but this really is pushing the outside of the surrealist envelope.
