Was I the only one who watched The Rachel Maddow Show last night and saw that brilliant video clip of John McCain come within a hair’s width of exploding into a rage before the editorial board of Des Moines Register?
[link to clip below]
Apparently, McCain was questioned about his issue with telling the truth, to which he replied with locked jaw and clenched teeth, "I’ve always had 100% absolute truth and that’s been my life, of putting my country first. And I’ll match that record against anyone’s. And I’m proud of it. And an assertion that I’ve ever done otherwise I take strong exception to." If he could have shot laser beams out of his eyes and vaporized his inquisitors, he would have. You could feeeeeeel the burn...and it feeeeels sooooooo gooooooood!

Of course, Maddow was all over this. She set up the story with a clip from the animated Disney film Pinocchio, and then followed the McCain video saying, "He’s claiming here he only exclusively tells the truth. That is a very stark claim. It’s almost like a challenge to...name some of his lies." Which, of course, she promptly does.
It’s almost too easy. I only hope every interview with the media between now and Nov. 4 questions McCain about telling the truth because it’s only a matter of time before that temper is going to come erupting forth on camera. We’ll be watching that for decades to come. Forget the Dean Scream. Our biggest challenge will be to come up with a catchy name for it. Suggestions anyone?
