Okay, this is a question for movie buffs. I have four choices right now, and welcome more additions.
1) To Die For
Nicole Kidman's character, Suzanne Stone, in "To Die For." She's a pretty bimbo who just wants to be famous and on TV. And she's willing to do anything to get what she wants. Her idiotic monologues delivered directly to the camera are a scary imitation of the real thing.
2) Fargo
Frances McDormand plays Marge Gunderson, the local police chief who also happens to be 7 months pregnant and is investigating a series of murders. Set in Minnesota, McDormand manages to catch that bouncing lilt of Norwegian settlers. Her accent is a dead on Palin imitation. Right down to the "You betcha."
3) Being There
Peter Sellers. Sellers plays an idiot named Chance who wonders out of his cloistered existence as a gardener until he stumbles into the Political establishment who mistake him for a genius. No matter how opaque or nonsensical his responses, pundits continually find him profound. Everything he knows he has learned from watching TV. Well, there's a parallel for you.
4) Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
A Frank Capra fantasy in which Jimmy Stewart (Mr. Jefferson Smith) is the decent, American everyman who goes to Washington to fight for justice. He is helped by his cynical secretary, Jean Arthur, who turns out to have a heart of gold. He's not exactly Joe Sixpack. And I don't think he hunts moose from a helicopter. but he can filibuster.
