Ok, I wrote a brief diary tearing into Rita Crosby on MSNBC last night and got a lot of good feedback. I concluded that I'd stay with CNN as the "least awful" cable news network.
But has anyone else noticed how totally inappropriate and embarassing Larry King has been during this catastrophe? I realize this is not news, but it's amazing that CNN allows him to be the face of the network on prime time during an unprecedented national emergency.
First, he does NO research, so he asks embarassingly uninformed questions. Tonight he asked Senator Landrieu if she was planning to visit New Orleans and she had to inform him that she made a high profile landing on the roof of the Superdome with the governer yesterday.
I'm sure others can come up with their favorite moment of Larry being Larry. Heck, even the Simpsons did a great bit where Homer was listening to the Bible being read by Larry in which he goes directly from Deuteronomy to "hey, how about those NBA finals?--I like the Spurs."
Ok, I know that, but tonight as he hands off to Aaron Brown, he says inexplicably: "It don't get any better than this, folks!"
What???? What on earth was his thought process at that moment. What did the "it" of that sentence even refer to? CNN's coverage? Please, help me out.
Poor Aaron Brown did his patented verbal cringe and immediately said "or much worse."
Poor Aaron. How can they force the most sensetive newsman in cable to follow this bad Catskills act? Oy.
