The spectre of hate-ridden, dis-informational broadcasting in America is a clear abuse of free speech, a cancer on our country. It's time for a new FCC director. One that will take a hard look at this and do something about it.
The self-promoting, self-serving narcissism of the the likes of Coulter, O'Reilly and Limbaugh, their hate and fear mongering, sadly illustrate how manipulative and morally irresponsible some broadcasting has become in our country.
I like to think that a newly appointed director of the FCC, in an enlightened administration with an enlightened congressional majority, might be accorded power to shut down or, at least throttle, or hold them accountable for their outlandish lies, conspiracies of disinformation that have so misled and hurt the American people and our very democracy.
That new standards, not censorship, of the airwaves could and should be aggressively pursued is not so radical as it sounds if one considers this on the grounds of national security. Such abuse of the airwaves rises to a NATIONAL SECURITY issue. How pleased the Bin Ladens of the world must be by relentless far right broadcasting of fear and division and Fox news unremitting contribution that aided and abetted America's loss of direction, the Patriot Act, the economic meltdown, thousands of lives lost and maimed and a country divided and failing.
Inciting hate, appealing to the lowest common denominator of our society by pandering to our citizen's ignorance and fear, stirring the seeds of division in order to influence political agendas owned by corporations that own the airwaves, is clearly more destructive to our country, our democracy than any specious claims of infringement they would advance to defend in their self not America's interest.
I hope we not only get that new enlightened administration and veto-proof majority, but that our future president will appoint an FCC director with uncommon common sense and vision to get real with what's really wrong with the airwaves and take bold measures to make broadcasters serve American interest, not those who would tear us down, frighten and break us apart.
Free speech is one thing...inciting hate, division, influencing elections with lies and propaganda is nothing less than TREASON on a mass scale and should be treated accordingly under our constitutional law.
