There is a diary on the rec list right now which highlights Chuck Todd's comments prefacing the interview which Brian Williams had with John McCain and Sarah Palin.
The interview is set to air in several parts. Part 1 is below the fold.
I now understand what Chuck Todd was talking about when he mentioned the negative energy. I don't think it was the lack of chemistry so much as the tension. It's palpable. You can feel that both McCain and Palin are THIS CLOSE to using foul language in response to even the simplest of questions.
McCain's smile is forced. He's had it. And I maintain that if there was any way for him to quit this thing right now, he would take it. But the man is just plain stuck. He has to see it through.
Williams asks rather softball questions, and rather than trying to connect with the interviewer or the viewers at home, McPalin are just focused on working as many of their attacking points into their responses as possible.
How utterly unconvincing.
And what's with the Biden thing? It's like McCain knows there ought to be SOMETHING he can use from Biden's fumble, but he just doesn't know what.
"Oh that's remarkable that a VP candidate would say something like that"
WHY? What's the big deal? McCain can't articulate it. His response to the suggestion that there ought to be outrage is simply to say "I've been tested."
Brian Williams pointed out that Lieberman said the same thing Biden did. McCain's response? "Lieberman crossed party lines to endorse me. Something that is practically unprecedented."
Sure, if by "unprecedented" you mean "happens all the time". Almost serendipitously, Williams segues into the Powell endorsement.
Poor McPalin.
