With voter registration lists being purged in 19 separate states at the hand of Republicans, it's no wonder Barack Obama is not taking the bait proffered by the McCain campaign to release details about his small donors: why, after all, give the GOP another hit-list to suppress from voting?
With this month's report on the Obama campaign's economic contributions topping a record-breaking, jaw-dropping $150 million dollars for the month, it's no surprise one of the multitude of desperate McCain tactics to smear Obama and pander to irrational and unfounded fears of his heritage was to question the identities of his enormous ranks of small donors. After all, how could the common man that the GOP has tried so hard through it's surrogate corporations and it's policies to bury alive beneath debt, foreclosure, and job loss possibly contribute so much money to a political campaign?
How could a man with a name like 'Barack HUSSEIN Obama' inspire the underclass whom the Republicans trample upon in their orgy of greed to part with their hard earned - and even harder to earn in the past few years - cash? It's simply not possible in the Norman Rockwell meets Nightmare on Elm street world of delusion that the Republicans live in. At least, that's what John McCain and his campaign lackeys would seem to believe...
"I just hope we know every one of those donations came form legitimate U.S.-based sources" Davis said, adding that America "knows" what it's like to have election results questioned after the fact. Davis also conflated the Obama camp's non-disclosure of donors giving less than $200 (which is not required by law), with both the ACORN voter-registration issue and Bill Ayers.
"This pattern of non-disclosure, of non-responsiveness follows a pattenr of [the Obama camp] setting their own rules to apply to this campaign that is consistent with all other patterns we've seen," Davis said.
Unsubstantiated fear-mongering and attempts to appeal to latent ethno-centric racism aside, it's really no surprise that the McCain campaign and the GOP at large want to get their hands on a comprehensive list of small dollar amount Obama donors. They're already using foreclosure lists to illegally (or at the very least, immorally and unethically) purge voters. Which makes sense in GOP la-la-land.
After all, why allow someone whose lost their home during an 8-year apocalypse of Republican rule to vote when it's more than likely said individuals aren't likely to be to keen on handing the reigns of the country over to another greedy Republican war-monger? So it really shouldn't be a surprise that the GOP wants information on Obama's $200-or-less financial donors.
What is surprising - though it shouldn't be at this point, what with the impeccably intelligent and adeptly strategic campaign Obama has run thus far - is that the Democrats, for a change from recent years, aren't taking the bait. No, gone it would seem are the days of tactically ignorant Democrats (at least, at the Presidential level) who blindly chomp down on the wriggling worm impaled upon a Republican hook. This time around, we actually have a candidate with the political chops to avoid giving in to GOP fear-based reverse psychology.
So, as one of those small time donors, I just want to say "Thanks" to the Obama campaign. For protecting me from being purged from the voter registry, and protecting the hundreds of thousands of others like me. Come November 4th, we'll hopefully be one voting block that the GOP won't be able to suppress.
