From the Andrew Lloyd Webber Musical "Evita" a snippet of lyrics from "Rainbow High" as Evita Peron prepares for another smash hit success appearance before "her people" the descamisados, the shirtless masses that a certain current day Evita refers to as "Joe Six-Pack"
[Eva's dressers:]
Eyes, hair, mouth, figure
Dress, voice, style, movement
Hands, magic, rings, glamour
Face, diamonds, excitement, image
[Eva:]
I came from the people, they need to adore me
So Christian Dior me from my head to my toes
I need to be dazzling, I want to be Rainbow High
They must have excitement, and so must I
$150,000.00 spent at Neiman Marcus, Sak's Fifth Avenue, Macy's, Bloomingdales, Barney's, Atelier's. A good three or four years of Joe Six-Pack salary spent in a period of 2 months to dress up our Alaskan Evita for her public.
What do they say they like about her? Oh yeah, that she's so real. Yeah, right! Real takes a whole lot of clothes and make up apparently.
High flying, adored
So young, the instant queen
A rich beautiful thing, of all the talents
A cross between a fantasy of the bedroom and a saint
You were just a backstreet girl
Hustling and fighting, scratching and biting
This is a Friday dump worthy story culled from McCain-Palin campaign financial reports and has been told in Bob Sackamento's recommended diary and from The Politico, it's spread to the NY Times, it's everywhere and was apparently the big topic on Morning Joe today where even Joe Scab was horrified. Republicans may not recoil over abuse of power, or even taking her daughter on a free five day jaunt to NY staying in luxury hotels on the taxpayer's dime,
In October 2007, Palin brought daughter Bristol along on a trip to New York for a women's leadership conference. Plane tickets from Anchorage to La Guardia Airport for $1,385.11 were billed to the state, records show, and mother and daughter shared a room for four nights at the $707.29-per-night Essex House hotel, which overlooks Central Park.
The event's organizers said Palin asked if she could bring her daughter.
and other inexcusble abuses of the taxpayers, which at best she should reimburse. But this everyone gets.
Did the woman have any clothes of her own? How may suits did Todd and Levi get for the convention? Shoes? Are we talking Imelda here?
The entries also show a few purchases at Pacifier, a top notch baby store, and Steiniauf & Stroller Inc., suggesting $295 was spent to accommodate the littlest Palin to join the campaign trail.
That must be one hell of a onesie. Did these people ever hear of Osh Kosh By Gosh or Hanna Andersen? Holy crap!
Can you wait for the book(s) to come out about this train wreck? The mea culpas and youa culpas that will fly from the survivors and will bring us inside the war room and let us know whether Evita demanded these accoutrement or whether high payed consultants were brought in and repackaged her in the finiest couture.
I'm their product, it's vital you sell me
So Machiavell me, make an Argentine Rose
I need to be thrilling, I want to be Rainbow High
They need their escape, and so do I
Obviously it smacks people in the face to have the person who can't stop speaking about Joe Six-Pack dressed to the nines, reportedly making two or 3 clothes and hairstyle changes a day, and guess what all on the donor's dime. And let's not forget the per diems she charged the state for staying in her own home. That she did not pay taxes on.
Does this lady pay for anything?
We all know people who are difficult to go out to dinner with because they never reach for the check. Evita here would absolutely keep recounting her latest moosehunting story when the check comes and leave the rest of the diners to pick up the tab.
But when a politician says she's against wasteful spending, makes a big deal about earmarks, says she's on the side of the tax payer, and then when the dust settles we find out that she is grabbing with both hands, taking everything she can, like a few other politicians from her state already in the dock, then she's not just a 1st class hypocrite, but a common, lying, OPPORTUNIST!
And the money kept rolling out in all directions
To the poor, to the weak, to the destitute of all complexions
Now cynics claim a little of the cash has gone astray
But that's not the point my friends
When the money keeps rolling out you don't keep books
You can tell you've done well by the happy grateful looks
Accountants only slow things down, figures get in the way
Never been a lady loved as much as Eva Peron
One of the claims they continue to trot out about Evita is that she's the most popular governor in the country, actually in the latest poll she dropped down a few spots, but it's not hard to be popular (as the earlier Evita learned) when you hand out money. Those checks that went out recently to each citizen of Alaska for natural resource gas royalties made a lovely downpayment on popularity. The people get theirs, Evita gets hers.
Did Evita build herself her dream McMansion on Wasilla's dime?
I am struck by how little we (and the McCain campaign) knew about this woman 2 months ago and how much has dribbled out. The picture is not a pretty one even with such a pretty subject. Can there be any doubt wha kind of person this is? What kind of adminsitrator this is? This is a person who gets what she wants and wants it all. An Alaskan Evita that McCain disasterously brought onto the big stage and opened up to the big dream, from Wasilla to Juneau to D.C.
Stand back, Buenos Aires
Because you oughta know whatcha gonna get in me
Just a little touch of
Just a little touch of
Just a little touch of star quality
This is a person who, like the present inhabitant of the WH, should never ever be trusted with the levers of power. It's not just that they do not understand how government works, they understand all too well how to make it work for them. It's not that they're ignorant of facts and disdainful of disbelievers. It's that they will work to keep people ignorant of their underhanded actions and are disdainful of rules and laws and ethics and decency.
It's amazing that it takes losing an American city and starting a disasterous war to open people's eyes to one man's transparent transgressions. If it took $150,000.00 of clothes, hair, make-up to wake some people up to the Alaskan Evita, then wonderful.
From "Don't Cry For Me Argentina"
It won't be easy
You'll think it strange
When I try to explain how I feel
That I still need your love
After all that I've done
You won't believe me
All you will see
Is a girl you once knew
Although she's dressd up to the nines
At sixes and sevens with you
