Last night the AP put out a story about Sarah Palin's outrageous, possibly illegal six figure shopping spree.
Defending Palin was one Page Growney, identified only as a "hockey mom", "mother of four" and resident of New Canaan, CT:
But another hockey mom defended Palin. "I can certainly imagine her clothes would cost that much," said Page Growney, a mother of four in upscale New Canaan, Conn. "What did you want to see her in, a turtleneck from L.L. Bean?"
Page Growney isn't a middle-class mom, she's a realtor with Sotheby's.
She currently has two listings, one is an "impeccable" $ 3.1 million home and the other a "sophisticated" $4.9 million mansion.
In Page Growney and John McCain's world, people pay more in property taxes ($42,086) than the average Ohioan makes in a year.
In Page Growney and John McCain's world, an L.L. Bean turtleneck is something to mocked. In the real world, middle-class people don't own $ 109 turtlenecks.
This defense of Palin's out-of-touch behavior has now appeared in hundreds of outlets across the world, injecting itself into coverage of yesterday's McCain rally in Ohio. The cutesy short-hand needs to stop.
