I never thought that religious fundamentalism was a great friend of art or humor. One thing this election has shown me is that we make some damn fine music, art and we are funny as hell.
So when I saw this clip, it reminded me of that.

Not that I was the biggest Happy Days or Opie fan, but the idea that people are using their skills to support the Obama campaign in this way heartens me. In the same way that seeing Ken Burns work during the Democratic National Convention heartened me.
An expansive love of ideas (something we have seen lately as the antithesis of Republicanism) makes not only for a strong body politic, a vigorous national identity, but it creates a world of curiosity that spreads out into all the ways in which we interact with our world(s).
This is yet another reason why an Obama win holds such promise. We may become a nation of seekers again...a nation of exploration instead of nation acting like a playground bully.
