Newsweek has a piece online right now that offers what insight they have into next week's planned Obama Show on CBS, FOX, NBC and cable (ABC still in the works). Not to crush my entire diary, but they don't know a whole lot. The wraps are being kept pretty tight on this $6 million event.
It is pointed out that this may be a risky venture, but I still can't help being excited about it. The bottom line is that this campaign has simply never let me down and I expect next week's made-for-tv special won't either.
The article does tell us that the event will be produced by Mark Putnam. Interestingly, this guy has a degree in Molecular Biology, but wisely left the field (says a current Molecular Biologist) to go into political consulting. He is best known most recently for producing those funny Bill Richardson commercials during the primary.
He also put together the biographical film of Michelle Obama that was shown during the convention.
The one little content rumor that Newsweek did share was that the show was thought to be a mix of video and live footage in a town hall format. Putnam is noted for his creativity and his understanding of using emotion effectively in film. I think it will be an event that allows people to really feel good that we will soon have a real President and maybe things will be ok. It may indeed be an emotional event.
The McCain campaign, of course, is doing their best to mock it. Clearly, they cannot possibly match it and indicated to Newsweek that they have no plans. Instead McCain is attempting to paint the event as an attempt by Obama to supercede the actual election.
My friend.... we are having that election and we are going to enjoy every second of it!!
