I saw this sign on the side of the road in Jonesboro, Arkansas tonight and I just had to stop and take a picture. The sign just screams of fear. Not the fear that Senator Obama is not ready to be President... This is a sign that says "We are afraid Senator Obama will be the next President and there isn't a damn thing we can do about it."
Why can't the Republicans run on their ideas? Why does it always have to be fear? "The terrorists will get ya if you let the evil, atheist liberals run the country!" "The liberal socialistic Democrats in Congress will help a President Obama to raise your taxes!" In this particular case, I think the sign means "Don't let that boy become President!"
To these fear mongering racists: The race baiting stops here! I am a single, white male and the idea that we will have our first African American President of the United States does not cause me to cringe. It makes me proud! It took 389 years from the time that the first Africans were sold into slavery for North America, but the moment has arrived. I am proud of how far this country has come. From the Central High School integration to today, there have been a lot of setbacks, but the moment has arrived in Arkansas. President Eisenhower would be ashamed of what has become of his party! President Lincoln would be appalled!
I wish that the Republicans would stop with the politics of fear. I want them to tell me how they are going to make America a better place for each and every man, woman and child. How can they make this a safer world for our generation and the precious generations yet to come if all they do is scare the electorate without pushing for real change?
Senator McCain, name one progressive thing that you will do for me. Taxing my health care coverage is not progressive. Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Iran is not progressive. Giving tax breaks and tax cuts to your wealthy friends will not help me. Your party tried Trickle Down economics in the 20s, in the 80s and under President "W"... How long are you guys going to push the same broken down jalopy? Senator McCain, Trickle Down economics may work for Cindy the Beer Distributor, but not for Unemployed Joe. The rest of us are tired of getting pissed on by big oil, Wall Street and corporate executives while the Republicans scream out blessings for the yellow rain.
Today I am going to go to a Get Out The Vote rally and listen to President Bill Clinton fire up the troops. Afterward, we are having a march to the early voting location and I am going to witness history. Today I get to see Change come to my little corner of America!
