The Minneapolis-St. Paul StarTribune has endorsed Mr. I Love my free apartments and suits from lobbyists, Norm Coleman
In an editorial only 242 words long (how much good can you find to say about Coleman? ), the editors have nothing to say about Coleman's comp trips to Neiman-Marcus, or his no-need-to-pay-the-rent DC apartment or his complete failure to actually do his job and challenge fraud in Iraq.
No, it's all about how "independent" Coleman is:
Coleman didn't begin his Senate service as an agent of bipartisanship. But that's the note on which he wound up his six-year term and which he has sounded repeatedly in his reelection campaign.
Really? As WCCO/CBS recently pointed out:
But he's also been a pretty dependable ally of Bush on some big-ticket items, such as tax cuts and Iraq, going back to his days as a candidate in 2002. That year, he hammered then-Sen. Paul Wellstone, a Democrat, for opposing the resolution authorizing military force against Iraq.
Norm remembers Paul of course. "I am a 99 percent improvement over Paul Wellstone," says he.
Folks, this one is very personal to me. I was an intern in the Office Senator Tom Harkin in 1992, the year Paul Wellstone told a reporter, "Tom is my best friend in the Senate." Let's win this one for Paul.
