I have been so frustrated with weekend television, especially the lack of tolerable news programming...no Keith...no Rachel. BUT I have decided to try out the new DL Hughley show and from first watch, it is actually entertaining and provocative. Watch DL Hughley "Breaks the News"!!!
If you are a fan of DL, especially his commentary on Bill Maher and his exquisite work on "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," an excellent show that was unfortunately prematurely taken off the air on NBC, you may have raised your ears a bit when you heard CNN was giving him his own show on Saturday nights. Well mine was, and I am so glad!
Weekend news, or at least the type of programming that fills the desire of those of us who are Keith and/or Rachel fans, is lacking on TV on Saturday and Sunday. Of course, I would be remiss to not mention The Daily Show, but once again Monday-Thursday. And yes, we have the first few minutes of SNL but the bittersweet news of the birth of Amy Poehler and Will Arnett's son today shows how even SNL can fill only a limited amount of our coach potato attention span.
Well for those of you who enjoy the snarky wit of the abovementioned shows, I strongly recommend the DL Hughley Show on CNN. Yes, CNN, the channel I had given up on many months ago!!! It's at a perfect time (10 pm Saturday or check it out on Digg or YouTube) or at least a perfect time for homebodies like me who enjoy a good night in preferably with something good on TV to watch. And then we have SNL, with at least Maya Rudolph appearing as Michelle Obama tonight and hopefully for a while. Without Poehler, SNL definitely has a void to fill. Myers is going to do WU alone methinks...
Anyway, I hope this counts as a diary for I read Kos daily but randomly write because I understand and support the thrust in netroots to not become a MySpace site....
PS: If you missed Hughley's show you missed:
A very funny, irreverent yet relevant monologue
An interview with the CNN expert Ali Velshi
An interview with Freddie Mack (satire) who blames Fannie Mae for the crisis. Of course, Freddie is pimped out and brutally honest...
DL interviewed Palin supporters at rallies to find out why they like her; he also suggested he should run with her (hee hee)
Continuing and very thought provoking criticism and observation on the current state of race in the nation
A look at fictional black POTUS in pop culture. DL asks "If we elect a black President, is an asteroid going to destroy our world?"
The young lady who beat Sarah Palin for Miss Alaska in 1984
Spoof commercials, like Bush supporting Obama...
And of course, the endorsement of Scott McClellan
To sum up, it's like Jon Stewart/Dave Chappell/PG Bill Maher yet authentically DL.
I completely dig it!!! DL Hughley "Breaks the News"
