This is a plea for civility in an uncivil time.
I know that many of you have had yard signs vandalized or stolen. I know that many of you feel that anything left on public property may not enjoy the same legal protection as a yard sign posted on a person's private property.
But stealing yard signs is wrong. People here in Southern California have been arrested for stealing yard signs. I have no problem with tackling anyone I catch on my property either stealing or attempting to steal a yard sign. You will be arrested. You will go to jail. Charges will be pressed for trespassing and, if applicable, theft or attempted theft. These charges will come back to haunt you every time you apply for a job with a public agency, including public schools. Even expungement will not remove these charges from the list of convictions which you must disclose to public agencies during the backgrounds phase of hiring.
I appeal to your sense of civility and fairness. I've seen a great campaign this year between two guys who are both qualified to be president. We live in the greatest democracy on God's green earth.
Let's keep it that way. Who's with me?
