I was chatting with one of the organizers in the VA office about my desire to work in WV, because I'm confident VA will turn blue and I want to turn WV blue as well. She said things were tighter in VA than people thought. I told her I wasn't worried, that I had faith. She replied, "You know what they say about faith without works."
James 2:14-26 (King James Version)
14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
Martin Luther hated the book of James because it undermined a cornerstone of his doctrine, justification by faith alone, "The doctrine by which the church stands or falls." On this crisp Sunday morning, the woman's comments bear particular relevance.
We have watched the McCain campaign implode and the right wing machine run off the rails because it was strictly faith-based. Their works, such as they were, were based on lies and fraud. And "faith without works is dead."
My thoughts are with the good people of WV, but my deeds will begin and end in VA. Every fisherman knows the fish fight hardest as you land them in the boat. Sometimes that takes many hands. So, I am going to put my preferences aside and go where I'm needed. At the end of the day, landing this fish is what we are all about.
To that end, I'm heading out into the lovely crisp Fall air with a song in my heart...

The senate candidates shown in the video all have good prospects for winning and flipping a Republicon seat to a Dem. If you want to help Barack grow some serious coat tails, throw them a little love and donate $20.08 to their campaigns. I know $20 is easier, but I always ask folks to dig just a little deeper and cough up the 8 cents because change matters!
Here's links to each of their sites:
Mark Begich (AK)

Here are the lyrics to the song for those of you wanting to sing along:
To the tune of "Sweet Baby James" by James Taylor. |
This is an old maverick who acts mighty strange,
Lobbyists and insiders are his constant companions.
He plays "follow the leader" as he guts regulations
Waiting for handlers his cue cards to change. |
He knocks off work early so he can retire
Dreaming about winning an election this year
Closing his eyes to a world that’s on fire
Mumbling about wars for the next hundred years
And says That One’s the one we should fear? |
It’s over you right wing bullies
We know who’s gonna bring change
No reds just blues are the colors we choose
You can’t scare us no more with your schemes
‘Cause Barack’s gonna bring real change. |
Now the fourth of November will be the big show
And we’re gonna turn out from LA to Boston
A sixty seat senate will just be the frosting
The primaries pumped us. We’re ready. Let’s roll. |
There’s a song that we sing Yes We Can win the good fight
A song that we sing Yes We Can live the Dream
A song that we sing Yes We Can make things better
Baby, if you believe it, then it truly can be.
So won't you stand up and sing it with me? |
It’s over you right wing bullies
We know who’s gonna bring change
No reds just blues are the colors we choose
You can’t scare us no more with your schemes
‘Cause Barack’s gonna bring real change. |
