I suppose I should write a longer story, but I've never been a DKos heavyweight...just a very long time lurker/sometimes participant in the community.
Today, I came to the library to do some work...as my work seems neverending...and BOY was I surprised...Early Voting is THRONGED!!!
It's loud and noisy here...the line out goes out the door, along the back of the building, turns to cover the entire parking lot. A line of at least 200 people when I got here...I've been here for three hours now...and the place is still thronged with early voters. Spirits are high, and I've heard people talking mostly about Obama...so I guess that's good. Here's the thing, though...in 2004, I did my early voting here at this same place on a Sunday...and it took me all of 5 minutes to vote. People are now standing in line two or three hours to vote today, and I have mixed feelings. Surely the board of elections should have anticipated this and done something to make it easier for these voters...I myself sent in my absentee ballot yesterday. I'm glad there's a huge turnout, but sad that people are inconvenienced in this way.
Anyway, I just wanted to make this small note, that people are waiting and voting, and hope is in the air here in S. Florida. Special note to Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. I voted for MYSELF for congressman this time, to protest your deathly silence in the campaigns to oust Ros-Lehitan (sp?) and the Diaz-Balart brothers. They are three of the most conservative and long-serving members of congress and they are right here in YOUR neighborhood, Debbie. You should have ACTIVELY CAMPAIGNED for them, since you are basically unopposed. SHAME ON YOU!! I hope at least the Diaz-Balarts are shown the door. You could have given Anette Tadeo a chance too, Debbie.
Ah well...VOTE EVERYONE!!!
