After Mitt Romney went from being more pro-gay and pro-abortion than Ted Kennedy to being more anti-gay and anti-abortion than John McCain, people should have learned to be a little distrustful of the Governor of my home state(er, commonwealth). According to the American Spectator, it has been allies of Mitt Romney who have been leaking reports of infighting in the McCain-Palin campaign. That infighting is surely happening, but the fact that it seems like Romney's allies are the ones leaking it would send the Republican Party into an instant brawl. It'd be outright betrayal. Is it plausible?
Remember when Sarah Palin was picked? Remember how surprised everyone was? Yeah, Mitt Romney thought he was in the running until the very end. Secret Service even checked out his sister's home. He was all over the place acting like McCain's top surrogate, and often he was McCain's most effective surrogate before the Sarah Palin pick. Also, ever notice how former Romney hand Kevin Madden is always on CNN offering candid commentary to Campbell Brown? Well, Kevin Madden may not be the only one getting candid with the press.
"Former Mitt Romney presidential campaign staffers, some of whom are currently working for Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin's bid for the White House, have been involved in spreading anti-Palin spin to reporters, seeking to diminish her standing after the election. "Sarah Palin is a lightweight, she won't be the first, not even the third, person people will think of when it comes to 2012," says one former Romney aide, now working for McCain-Palin. "The only serious candidate ready to challenge to lead the Republican Party is Mitt Romney. He's in charge on November 5th."
And...
Some former Romney aides were behind the recent leaks to media, including CNN, that Governor Sarah Palin was a "diva" and was going off message intentionally. The former and current Romney supporters further are pushing Romney supporters for key Republican jobs, including head of the Republican National Committee.
If this is true, and it gets out there, then the distrust within the GOP will reach all-time highs. It's McCain vs. the RNC, it's McCain vs. Palin, it's outright madness within the GOP while Huckabee and Jindal sit back with a front-row view and easy access to the floor once the blood is cleaned up after what might be an elephant brawl! Or something like that.
