Watching the "rise" of Sarah Palin in the Republican party is as fascinating as it is disturbing. While she may not be wildly popular at this time, she may be someone to watch in the upcoming years. No, I am not concern trolling, but am simply observing her and reflecting on historical happenings that thrust such hapless people into the spotlight. Also, so as not to push better and more valuable diaries from the reclist area, recommendation not necessary for this diary (not that I would make it to the reclist anyways). Simply read and scratch your heads...
...My ramblings below the fold.
Barracuda & Pitbull are the endearing terms used for a vice presidential candidate. What an insult to those ferocious creations of nature! There is nothing ferocious about Ms.Palin, only a sad display of a person who was accidentally thrust into the spotlight by short sighted men.
However this accident is not to be taken lightly by anyone as history is replete with examples of females who were thrust into the spotlight by accident or through political gamesmanship. These ladies were thrust into the spotlight initially by short sighted men who thought they could control the woman like a puppeteer would. However, the puppeteer strings soon became hanging ropes for those same men (both literally and figuratively) as the ladies rose to great heights of power and sought vengeance with a passion. Female leaders like Indira Gandhi (India), Benazir Bhutto (Pakistan), Sirimavo Bandaranaike (Sri Lanka), and many others are examples of this phenomenon.
Sarah Palin that you see today will not be the Sarah Palin you will see in the election year 2012. She will be coached, groomed and made ready for prime time. That is the scary part. If, with her current bumbling and total ignorance, she can motivate a rabid wing of her party, just imagine how easily she can expand that support by appealing to more moderate republicans. She could additionally use the rabid wing of the Republican Party as her "enforcers" who will trample any negativity regarding her from the right.
If Sarah Palin rises to power, it will be an unfortunate happening, because her rise will be built on the backs of ignorant, fear-mongering, low-information people in the Republican Party and her rise will threaten to push the Republican party further into the right wing wilderness. But if left alone to her means, she will adeptly confuse and attract mainstream voters through her completely faked down-to-earth personality. She is no more a hockey mom than I am the queen of England (and I am a male).
Desperation leads to cataclysms in political parties, and the cataclysm usually ends in mass purges of moderates or perceived traitors. And the people left over will coalesce around a leader that most appeals to them. If today’s mood of the party core is to be observed, their choice is Sarah Palin. Let us hope that his does not come to fruition; however every foreboding sign indicates that this is an eventuality that could very well happen. But then again, perhaps she is truly the village idiot and the rabid village idiots will realize that their heroine is as fake as a three dollar bill and may try to cash the three dollar bills.
