If you have a brief moment to take a breather between calling, persuading and GOTV, rent it or get it and watch the HBO film RECOUNT, the true story of the Florida 2000 debacle where hanging chads and mis-votes for Pat Buchanan ran the length of the legal process and the election ended up in the hands of the U.S. Supreme Court.
If you are a voter fraud conspiracy theorist worrying that it might happen again, then seeing it will help you steel yourself to fight that fight all over again. But, if all goes well and the landslide that we have dreamed about comes, where the American people stand up and throw the rascals out, from McCain down to Saxby Chambliss and Stevens and the whole gang, then watching this film will let you push the bookends together and say "this is how Bush came in, and this is how he leaves." It is a delicious film, sophisticated on so many levels, well-cast (Kevin Spacey, William Hurt, Laura Dern) and well acted, worth watching again. especially this weekend, on the Eve. Honestly, it will give you strength and intelligence for the battles ahead. Take out three hours, watch how we fight and eventually lose, but, yes, live to fight and win another day. I wonder, where was Barack that night when it went into overtime? What did he think and feel when he heard the news of Supreme Court's decision? And did it ever, in his wildest dreams, ever occur to him that he might actually be the man to right that wrong and lead us out of the wilderness?
Let every vote be counted, every one.
