Obama up by 3 in today's Rasmussen tracking poll. Obama's campaign really needs to attack the "spread the wealth" message.
Obama is now only up by three in Rasmussen's daily tracking poll. It notes that two of the last three nights of polling show a closer race than was found in the previous month.
First let me say, I don't think that this even remotely means that the sky is falling. We're doing great in the state polling, and that's what's most important.
However, I really do think McCain's "spread the wealth" meme is working quite effectively, and that's the reason for all of the tightening. Obama's team MUST aggressively shoot this down, with commercials. Not that lame "more of the same" economic commercial they put up. Obama's been doing it on the campaign trail, but not concisely enough, and more importantly, it hasn't been getting the same amount of media play that McCain's meme has. Therefore, he needs concise, direct, commercials about it.
Simply a screen saying "my tax cuts will benefit middle class families three times as much as McCain's. Tax cuts for firefighters and teachers, not for Paris Hilton and Exxon Mobile."
He also needs to make pointed commercials about how McCain is trying to pull wool over people's eyes, by confusing the issue. And then explain exactly how he's doing that, not just his typical "he's being negative and distorting" type commercials.
The Obama campaign REALLY needs to get on this, because I think McCain's message is really resounding with low-information voters, who haven't really been paying attention to what Obama's been saying in debates.
