Yep, it looks like the consensus is that Biden won on content, while Palin was able to apply a tourniquet. But the really important thing is that one more distraction is past...
It's my belief that VP debates do little to help your top-of-the-ticket guy (or gal,) but can do a great deal to hurt him or her. Joe Biden did nothing tonight to hurt our guy, and may indeed have helped him some. Palin, for her part, did nothing to seriously hurt her guy, but if she helped anybody, it was only herself.
I would not be surprised if the campaigns see debates as a huge pain in the ass and possible minefield, and will just be relieved for them to be over. As we have seen in 2004, winning the debates does not necessarily translate into an election day victory.
We have two more of these events to go, and I think the viewership will fall off some by the third debate, especially if McCain is called the loser on the next one.
What's more important right now is who's buying ads in what states, who's able to fund the best ground game, who's volunteers are the most fired-up, all the boring mechanics of campaigning. The fact that McCain bailed out of Michigan is the real news of the day. That Biden was able to do so well against the Pitbull(TM), well that's just gravy.
Now, let's get back to work and win this thing by 10+.
