He opens his show with an attack on Barack, claiming the LA Times tape they won't hand over reveals that Barack is toasting weather underground members at a dinner on the tape. Then Barnacle asks him to be a bit more specific, and Joe narrows it down to one person, Mika says, "But he teachers at Columbia, doesn't he?" and Joe says, "He's part of that Edward Said crowd at Columbia that's supposed to be so anti-semitic, right?"
Look. I attended Columbia, I worked as an administrative assistant in the Department of French for the then Chair who was a friend of Edward Said, and I am a Jewish woman. Edward Said was a frequent visitor to the department. He was always extremely cordial to me. I took courses in the Department of Middle Eastern studies, including a formidable and fascinating course on Iranian religion.
How dare Scarborough plant this kind of seditious blather at the outset of his show?
How could anyone allow him to stay on this show when he is capable of slandering an entire historic academic institution such as Columbia? Columbia, while challenging as a graduate program, was extremely informative, not to mention generous to me. I served not only as an administrative assistant there, but also held a research assistantship.
I think Columbia should say something to Joe about slandering Columbia University in this way. You don't just make charges of anti-semitism in this way.
Won't somebody stop this gruesome duet in the morning?
After Mika and Joe mock the infomercial by belittling the opening and laughing at Barnacle for "being moved by it" they go ahead and start the show with slander after slander, delivered in this disgustingly laid back, puerile, lascivious duet, with Mika looking into the camera and saying, "Hello, I'm Barack Obama," and Joe calls Columbia University anti-semitic.
