My beautiful twenty two year old daughter bounced in to tell me that the neighbor’s absentee ballots were in our mailbox completed, signed and stamped. Yes, the neighbors with two big yellow "Yes on 8" signs in their front yard. The same neighbors that had a six foot by eight foot Bush/Cheney sign in 2004. She looked at me with eyes twinkling as she gave me the ‘wait for it’ gaze. I said, "Wow!" She repeated, "In our mail box!"
Oh yeah, our mailman sucks! The mailman gets the mail in the general area and the neighbors have to deliver it within the surrounding two blocks to the correct addresses.
This is the second time he has picked up the neighbor’s outgoing mail and delivered it to our house.
I asked, "What did you do with them?" She danced in place as she explained how she walked up to the door, rang the bell and mimicked Julie’s trepid, "Yes" as her door opened. I observed my daughter’s attire an olive green t-shirt bearing a dove and Obama ’08, and Obama Biden ‘08 button, a No on 4 & 8 button and a No on 8 sticker.
As I watched my darling’s dancing eyes I said, "You could have thrown their votes away." She said, "I know and I thought about it, but I want to win this one fair and square. And let this be the first act to bring integrity back to our country and everyone’s ability to vote."
I settled into the thought that we did a lot of things right raising this beautiful talented intelligent young lady. I’ve been more proud of her, but this will stand out.
I will drop my absentee ballot in the ballot box at the polls. I wouldn’t want it to get lost like the Clinton’s Inauguration Invitations.
