Here it is -- the ad that finally turns the hounds loose on Mitch McConnell (and why Kentuckians with long memories will find it so deliciously delightful).
Plus -- a second, more serious ad that, again, taps into the long political memories of Kentuckians.
Jump and enjoy ...
First, a word of background for those who don't immediately get the association between Mitch McConnell and hound dogs.
From Wikipedia:
In 1984, McConnell ran against two-term Democratic Senator Dee Huddleston. The race wasn't decided until the last returns came in, and McConnell won by a razor-thin margin — less than half a percentage point. McConnell was the only Republican Senate challenger to win that year, despite the perception that 1984 was a disaster for Democrats. Part of McConnell's success came from a series of television campaign spots called "Where's Dee", which featured a group of bloodhounds trying to find Huddleston, implying that Huddleston's attendance record in the Senate was less than stellar.
Here's that original ad:
Well, Democratic challenger Bruce Lunsford has now returned the favor, and has the following up across the state:
But frankly, I find this ad much more compelling. It's called "Governors for Lunsford," and it is a great follow-on to the first ad:
At our Metro Dem rally last night, I told someone that I'm going to be pleased to see John Yarmuth elected again to Congress, and I'm going to be excited to see Barack Obama elected President. But if we also elect Bruce Lunsford, and finally Ditch Mitch, I'm going to do a Happy Dance all up and down Bardstown Road -- while doing the Bambi Walk!
This weekend is the final push for GOTV. If you are in Kentucky, find your local office and volunteer!
