Hard to believe, but there isn't any decent left-wing radio to listen to in New York City, so I'm stuck with the wack-a-doodle right-wingers on WABC.
So Larry Kudlow is holding court this morning. The man is clearly worried. He apologized to his audience for pointing out that Obama's poll figures have been above 50 percent for 9 straight days and this means trouble for McCain.
His prescription for McCain is to call for tax cuts that would lead to job creation. He says that calling for spending cuts - what he calls "root canal Republicanism" and government reform is not working.
Then a caller calls up and says that McCain has mentioned Al Gore as a possible Treasury secretary!
Update: Kudlow also says that going negative won't work for McCain. He rightly points out that the economy is the issue and job creation is the way to go.
With this news, Kudlow is stunned. He doesn't believe it. Then his producer tracks down the article.
McCain eyes potential Treasury pick Well, he was not exactly mentioned as a Tresury pick. Here is the relevant paragraphs, which was at the end of a long article:
Asked if he would be a visible presence in international talks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and replace the Kyoto Protocol, McCain, who has clashed with fellow Republicans over climate change, said he would do "whatever is necessary to try to move forward."
He said he would involve former Vice President Al Gore in efforts to address the issue. "I would tap him, I would tap people who have been involved in these issues for many years." McCain noted that he disagreed with the Nobel Peace Prize winner about nuclear energy but added, "I have great respect for Al Gore."
It would seem that just the mere mention of having anything to do with Gore is enough to rattle the cages of the flying monkey right.
So here is the strategy. We must talk up McCain's endorsement of Gore and say what a good idea it is and at last McCain is showing his true maverick status. The would of course rip up the base. Oh, and we got to get Sarah Palin to mention this. She is getting to be the best woman on our team.
And now I hear that McCain has even mentioned having Andrew Cuomo as part of his administration. I haven't tracked that down yet, but that is interesting also.
Maybe the Obama team should create an ad of McCain statements that annoy the right wing. Getting the right wing to stay home only helps strengthen the Democratic vote. My, what a dirty trick that would be.
